re: Taiwan's TSMC wins order from AMD unit Spansion - report

Here's another article saying almost the same:

Spansion chooses TSMC over UMC, says report

Compiled from outside sources; Esther Lam, DigiTimes.com [Monday 4 July 2005]

Spansion, a joint venture between Advanced Micro Devices (AMD) and Fujitsu, is reportedly placing NOR flash orders at Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company (TSMC) with volume production slated for the first quarter of 2006, according to a July 4 Chinese-language Economic Daily News (EDN) report.

Both companies signed the foundry contract in June with the initial amount of wafer starts set at about 3,000 0.11-micron manufactured 8-inch equivalent wafers, the report noted.

Spansion was unavailable for comment at the time of publication, while TSMC officially declined to comment on the report, according to a Forbes report.

According to a recent report, Spansion was looking for capacity from United Microelectronics Corporation (UMC) and Chartered Semiconductor Manufacturing for its self-developed MirrorBit-made “ORNAND” flash memory production.
