Well, when iMac was first announced, I sent suggestion to Apple
for marketing colors. In particular, I addressed your concern
by suggesting that colors only be made available by build-to-
order and that color housings be manufactured by JIT delivery.
So, the consumer would therefore have the choice when important,
but would have to BTO and wait on JIT, rather than pay extra $$$.
Another possibility is to manufacture clear cases, and use a
spray translucent varnish on the interior for colors. This, I
am sure, would be a $$$ extra item.
