RESEARCH ALERT - Goldman starts Manugistics

NEW YORK, April 25 (Reuters) - Goldman Sachs said it initiated coverage of software company Manugistics Group, Inc. <MANU.O> with a market outperformer rating.

In a research note, analyst Thomas Berquist said: "The Talus acquisition has enabled Manugistics to couple SCM with Talus' pricing and revenue optimization solutions in order to offer customers what it has labeled Enterprise Profit Optimization (EPO).

"The company wins high marks from customers, analysts, and integrators for their products rich functionality and common data model," he wrote.

For fiscal 2002, Goldman estimates revenues of $400 million and earnings per share of 24 cents and on a calendar basis, it sees Manugistics' revenues at $370.3 million and 18 cents per-share earnings. Manugistics shares were down 26 cents at $29.06 on the Nasdaq in mid-morning trading on Wednesday.
