Reid’s Dirty Work

In continued attempts to vilify judicial nominee, Judge Sam Alito, Minority Leader Harry Reid hosted an invitation-only press conference last Friday. Throughout this briefing, staffers from the offices of Kennedy, Durbin, and Biden were seen exiting and entering, while Republican staffers and reporters not on the invitee list were barred at the door, as reported in this The American Spectator article on Monday.

As the confirmation hearings approach, Democrats are becoming desperate in their tactics to discredit the President’s nominee. As quoted in the same The American Spectator article, a leadership staffer said Reid’s offensive strategy is to “not just push, we really want the knives to come out.” At this point, the Minority leader is employing some of the party’s far-left Senators including Durbin, Schumer, and Boxer, as well as third-party groups such as NARAL and People for the American Way, to do the “dirty work,” as he calls it, in turning Americans against Judge Alito.

These groups are struggling to find ways to damage the nominee’s excellent reputation on Reid’s orders of making “Alito – in the minds of the American public – to be the second coming of Judge Bork,” according to another leadership staffer.
