GDC - Lucent Relationship Clarification
MIDDLEBURY, Conn.--In response to the many inquiries that General DataComm (GDC) has received, the company wishes to issue a statement clarifying the relationship between GDC and Lucent Technologies following the announcement made by Lucent on September 17, 1997 regarding an Enhanced Portfolio of Data Networking Products which included Asynchronous Transfer Mode (ATM) products.
GDC has a multiyear, global Value Added Reseller agreement with Lucent Technologies under which Lucent purchases ATM products from GDC to complement Lucent's portfolio of products targeted to the carrier market. GDC and Lucent achieved substantial business success in this market sector, particularly in Europe (e.g., Dutch PTT, Telia, the Swedish PTT, Telefonica de Espana, and others) and now are expanding globally.
The recent announcements by Lucent place an emphasis on Lucent's enterprise market sector, in contrast to GDC's activity, which is with the Lucent organizations that are centered on the carrier market.
The company stated that its understanding with Lucent is that they intend to continue working with GDC on joint product offerings. At present, there are a number of significant, long term projects that GDC and Lucent are pursuing.
