AMD Breaks Into Thin-and-Light Market with New Processors Powering Fujitsu Notebook

AMD (NYSE:AMD) today announced its low-voltage mobile AMD Athlon(TM) XP-M processors will power the new Fujitsu LifeBook S2000 notebook. Less than four pounds and 1.36 inches in height, the first-ever AMD processor-based thin-and-light notebook available in the U.S. is designed to meet the challenging mobility and productivity needs of business and home consumers.

Setting a new standard for price and performance in the thin-and-light market, AMD and Fujitsu partnered to deliver a notebook computer with integrated wireless communication and extended system battery life. The result is a travel-friendly tool enabling great productivity and long connectivity for end users.
AMD is deploying its low-power mobile AMD Athlon XP-M processors with an open architecture approach, helping to ensure OEMs can easily integrate their choice of 802.11 solutions into AMD processor-based mobile systems. With integrated WiFi-certified wireless LAN (IEEE 802.11b) capabilities available in the LifeBook S2000 notebook, in addition to its existing modem and Ethernet ports, mobile professionals can stay connected in several types of computing environments. The notebook also features two USB2.0 ports for enabling the transfer of large digital files in seconds.

The LifeBook S2000 notebook features AMD PowerNow!(TM) technology that helps extend the battery life of a notebook without compromising performance. Fujitsu customers can choose a recommended configuration or customize the LifeBook S2000 notebook utilizing the company's Configure To Order (CTO) Program.
About the Mobile AMD Athlon(TM) XP-M Processor
The mobile AMD Athlon XP-M processors are compatible with AMD's Socket A infrastructure, and support the advanced 266MHz AMD Athlon front-side bus. The low-voltage mobile AMD Athlon XP-M processors are pin compatible with Socket A infrastructure, but are packaged in a smaller uPGA package. Mobile AMD Athlon XP-M processors are manufactured using AMD's 0.13 micron copper process technology in Fab 30 in Dresden, Germany.
