I'm so sorry for them and for you.

I've had to put down two beloved friends and the third will be sometime this year. Mike is now 17. He's half newfoundland half lab. He's still healthy organ wise, still eats well, not having a problem going to the bathroom. He has, for the last year, been having a hard time standing for more than 10 minutes at a time. We put a new hip in him 13+ years ago. The vet won't replace both hips. According to him, why put the dog through such a trauma.

Mike struggles to get up but doesn't cry. He is starting to pant a little more which is a sign of pain. We have an understanding Mike and I do. He's going to let me know when he's had enough and I'm going to be the friend I've promised him I would always be and let him go with grace and dignity.

I know it sounds absurd but we really do understand one another.
