I don't find this hard to believe at all. After you and the dog have been around each other for years, you can read each other's face and eyes. I sure felt that way about my first Shepherd. We got him at 4 months and he was with us over a dozen years. I spent months with him in obedience training, both voice and hand signals. We knew each other completely.
