There's no way you can evaluate these companies unless you get into their mortgage portfolio and see how exposed it is to prepayments, how much is in interest only strips, whether any of that exposure has been hedged, etc.

The gas they took today, as you probably know, came as the result of a downgrade by Pru. They are certainly trading as though the market expects them to go belly up. But it would probably be prudent to wait until more info is available, or a good recovery on good volume is in place. Still, a tough call.
