With a looming shortage relative to pre-orders almost a given, it would majorly piss vendors off to lose sales to *APPL* cause the Apple Store had stock and the vendor did not. By forgoing some early extra revenue from direct sales, AAPL keeps the channel happy.

Also, according to reports, AAPL is orchestrating the iMac ad campaign in conjunction with the resellers. It would be silly if, after spending the ad dollars, that they had no stock.

IMO, a prudent move.
