I read the article with interest. The problem I see is that it takes enormous energy to create Aluminum or Zinc in the first place. Also recycling the Aluminum and Zinc will take enormous energy. Then of course you have all the really newly created chemicals that make the batteries work in the first place. I like the term batteries better than fuel cell. Can a replentishable metal fuel supply compete with the cost of hydrocarbons.

But for one shot backup they are/(may become) another alternative. Safer storage and high energy density.
