Since Bill Gates owns 25% of MSFT shares it is highly unlikely the company will ever pay a common share dividend. 25 cents of every dollar they paid out would be paid to Bill and he doesn't need the money!

The preferred shares (MSFTP) do pay a dividend, however.

MSFT last split on 12/09/96 with the stock trading around 160. At the rate this juggernaut has been moving another split by the end of this year or early next may well be needed. Nothing announced so far, however.
