The New York State Supreme Court, Appellate Division has reversed last February's ruling by Justice Doris Ling-Cohan that would have allowed gay marriages in New York City.
The Politicker: "Mike is hardly celebrating what is, after, his legal victory. [...] People who follow these things are expecting some sort of grand, pro-gay gesture out of him this term. This, needless to say, isn't it."
Ramblings on the Matter: "The consensus is that this appeals decision will be overturned. Fingers crossed."
A Stitch in Haste: "Remember that there are several cases, both victories and defeats, working their way through the New York courts, with a final, definitive determination of the issue by the New York State Court of Appeals (the state's highest court) much further down the road."
Rhymes With Right: "Judges don't make constitutional law -- the people do."
Liberal Serving: "Laws are meant to flex, evolve and adapt to the needs of society, not to inflict or perpetuate discrimination upon it: the question is not what the law currently implies, but how it should read to best serve the state."
