Actually, what it takes is sound economic policy, policy that recognizes free trade in free markets as the engine that drives jobs, wealth creation and rising living standards.

History and empirical evidence have shown that governments, in and of themselves, cannot do this. They can only formulate policies that hinder or foster economic prosperity.

Kerry (as well as the Democratic Party and, to a lesser extent, the GOP) seems to believe that governmental intrusion, manipulation, and regulation, i.e. a planned economy, is a cure to economic ills. I disagree.

the President leads that effort.

IMO, the proper and effective role of President is to use the office as a bully pulpit, something that Ronald Reagan (in spite of his flaws) excelled at more than any other modern President. Neither Clinton nor Bush have been nearly as effective in that role, again IMO.
