You know, I'm kind of frustrated by the complaints about the reception of newbies in the thread. I am a new participant, but I have reviewed the thread from the beginning. I highly recommend it. I think maybe we newbies have a tendency to get a little defensive until we understand the high standards for information to be included in the thread. I suggest that we should view each substantive post as something akin to an article intended for publication in a professional journal--subject to peer review and constructive criticism. Newbies will post and the group will efficiently dissect and discuss the ideas in the post. These are not personal attacks. This is frank, open discourse which can be beneficial to us if we are receptive to what these folks have to say and open to the possibility that we may make a mistake. Do not mistake their efficiency and honesty for an insult. They know we have something valuable to contribute or this would be a closed community.

As a mathematician, I am required to back up my ideas with proofs and I require the same of others. If there is no proof, there is only conjecture. Period. That is what makes this group such a great fit for me. That is also what makes it so valuable in general. Maximum genuine information, minimum BS.

The established members are efficient, perceptive, honest, incredibly supportive, and most importantly open minded in their criticism of our ideas. They have worked long and hard to acquire their knowledge and experience. We should respect that and extend the courtesy of not wasting their time by posting unsubstantiated claims on a whim. Do your "due diligence" and then post. You'll be surprised how much you learn.
