institutions would buy now for the same reason you would buy now - in the expectation of a rise in price. But while you might be acting on a hunch or an educated guess re Ascend's revenues for the 1st Q you can bet the institutional analysts are acting on more than just a hunch.

Leuthy may be right regarding Smith Barney but the fact is they are a market maker in ASND and they will make money that way. If there is buying and the price goes up they make money on the appreciation of their holdings just as we do. Is it wiser for them to have the price go up so they can sell off or is it wiser for them to hold the stock as the price continues to rise? While there's good reason for cynicism regarding market makers and others still there's nothing wrong with making money the old fashioned way - by buying a good prospect and holding it.

IMHO, of course. ;-}
