Yup
I accept that. It's one reason I'm not much of an "eye for an eye" person. I think you have to take the defectively violent out of society, but I feel no urge to hurt them- since I really think they know of no other way to be, and to punish people who are already obviously defective for being born that way seems kind of wanton and cruel to me. I have always kind of felt that if people could be happy and productive, they would be, because it's just easier to be those things. No one wakes up and says to themselves "I want to be stupid, and a failure, and have a crap family life, and brutalize all the people around me." People who end up that way have something wrong with them, and when it can't be fixed with medication, you really have to pity them.

I'm not one of those who would excuse the behavior of folks who act out because they are born defective. I think we have to have standards and hold even those people who could never meet them to those standards- however "unfair" that is, since it is best for society. But I take no pleasure from the fact those people will be confined, nor do I wish to torture them for their defectiveness. If that makes sense.
