The US Energy Information Administration Tuesday cut its outlook for 2012 Henry Hub gas prices to $3.17/MMBtu, down from last month's projection of $3.35/MMBtu.

The agency's March Short-Term Energy Outlook also slashed its price outlook for the first three quarters of the year, lowering its Q1 estimate by 30 cents to $2.62/MMBtu, cutting its Q2 outlook 18 cents to $3.10/MMBtu, and dropping its Q3 projection 17 cents to $3.20/MMBtu.

The cuts come after last month's prices hit the lowest level in a decade, EIA said. "Natural gas prices averaged $2.50/MMBtu at the Henry Hub in February 2012, down $0.17/MMBtu from the January 2012 average and the lowest average monthly price since February 2002," EIA said.
