However, I feel you haven't understood what Lorne is trying to impress upon you.

Firstly , it appears you have mistaken the term or movement of " multiculturalism " for the reality of ethnic diversity in North America. These are two VERY different considerations.

One says - the dominant societies should encourage the ethnic societies to maintain and nurture their origins and by in some cases official decree sponsor groups and organizations and provide education based on ethnicity.

The other says - by way of mere happenstance - people of diverse origins end up living and working side by side, with the choice of the individuals to decide how they wish to live their lives in their new societies and environments.

From my personal perspective -- this is the closest I've seen to my own ideologies on the subject :

And by the way...America is NOT an official multicultural society...never has been. It is regarded as a melting pot with a movement afoot to progress multiculturalism.

Canada, on the other hand , IS an official multicultural society by definition in our constitution :
