One of my heroes as a boy. The biography by Ronald McNair Scott, ROBERT THE BRUCE, is top notch.

Wiliam Wallace gets lots of attention, especially after Braveheart, but he was an aristocrat apologist for the puppet kings in Berwick. Bruce made many sacrifices and compromises with Edward, but his long game in the end won Scottish independence.
