Republicans retained a district they have held for 40 years in a close election.

That does not apply to a new race after an incumbent retires or dies, and you and your friends that got caught with egg all over their faces know it.



"Democrats are reeling from an embarrassing loss in the 13th district of Florida for a vacant congressional seat. Democrat Alex Sink was defeated by Republican David Jolly to fill out the term of Republican Bill Young, who died in last fall. The district, which is widely considered a bellwether, was carried by President Barack Obama in both 2008 and 2012. According to CNN, “Of those registered to vote in the district, 37% are Republicans, about 35% are Democrats and 28% are unaffiliated.”"
