Oh dear. Somebody hasn't been following along here. It was in the early stories about the current action. Sworn depositions from Compaq executives. The icon goes back where it belongs, or no Windows license. The episode was the source of one of my favorite little phrases, "The uniformity and integrity and uniformity of the Windows (95) experience". I think Compaq was said to be fragmenting and fracturing that alleged uniformity and integrity.

Of course, soon afterwards all the OEMs were declaring in public how much they all loved Microsoft. I wonder why. I also wonder how well informed you are about the matter if you don't know about this little tidbit.

Make a deal with you, JD. If you promise no ad hominems for a month, I'll dig up the original story. I'm not holding my breath.

Cheers, Dan.
