Sharon "defends the principle of every religion having the right of access to the Temple Mount," the statement said.

Again.. here we see where Israel has been more than fair to the Muslims in Jerusalem over the past 34 years.. They have prevented Jews from visiting the temple mount while permitting Muslims to control the dome of the rock. All to the exclusion of the rights of Jews who claim the Temple Mount as THEIR HOLIEST SITE, not merely the 3rd holiest site (based upon one questionable verse in the Quran).

And I have to admit that I find it rather strange that Muhammed died while returning from a Hadj to Mecca in 632, yet they claim that he died in Jerusalem and ascended to heaven from there on some "journey by night".

"..the Qur'an has only one direct reference to this whole episode and it is found in this verse:

Glory to (God) Who did take His Servant for a Journey by night from the Sacred Mosque to the Farthest Mosque whose precincts We did bless, - in order that We might show him some of Our Signs: for He is the One Who heareth and seeth (all things). Surah 17.1

The "Sacred Mosque" (al-masjidul-haram) is interpreted to be the Ka'aba at Mecca and the "Farthest Mosque" (al-masjidul- aqsa) the Temple at Jerusalem (also referred to as al-baitul- muqaddas - the "holy house"). The great mosque which presently stands next to the Dome of the Rock is accordingly known today as the "al-Aqsa" mosque."

Now it begs attention that history reflects that the Umayyids built the Al-Aqsa Mosque in the late 7th century, AFTER the death of Muhammed.

And this link (I hadn't realized that King Abdullah was assassinated at the mosque, his son, the later King Hussein, being saved by his chest full of medals).

So I have a bit of difficulty understanding how Muhammed ascended to heaven from that mosque when it would still be decades before it would be built. And the Dome of the Rock was built in 687 A.C. by Caliph Abd al-Malik, half a century after the death of the Prophet Muhammad.

But you know something?? I can't figure out how Noah got all of those animals on the Ark either...

But that's religion. Belief matters more than facts and people have been fighting and dying over those beliefs for centuries.

I wonder how the Muslims would feel if Christians started claiming that Jesus had ascended to heaven from Mecca?
