Voters in Crimea will decide their fate on Sunday in a contentious, hastily arranged referendum that appears to offer them only a stark choice between joining Russia now or establishing an autonomous Crimea that might join Russia in the future.

Remaining a part of Ukraine is not an option for residents of Crimea, where mysterious armed men in unmarked uniforms walk the streets of Sevastopol as Russian uniformed forces mass on the Ukrainian border.
