Well, there are economists who do all that. But they're record in predicting the long term market moves is worse than the technicians. Most of them would tell you that most of those factors seem to have only limited impact on the supply and demand equations that drive markets and that there is really no good way to "explain" the performance of the averages over time, other than to note that they tend to do better when the economy does better, and worse when the economy does worse.

Ultimately, I think there are just too many factors to try to explain.
