jim, welcome to the thread! I am sure you have made or very shortly will make the acquaintance of "Readware", a professional satellite industry consultant who, bless him, posts regularly to the LOR Motley thread. geoff is kind enough to copy and paste the posts to SI. If your ISP is AOL, read him there directly as that is an excellent thread as well.
The risk of launch failure is a topic that has been exhaustively debated. You have managed to ask a question that I hadn't previously seen asked which is pretty amazing. The Globalstar February 5th launch is from Cape Canaveral and will be managed by LOR personnel. If I understand it correctly, the PEOPLE running the launch are as important or more important than the vehicle itself.
That doesn't answer your question but it is a point that Readware has made repeatedly: if you look at failed launches, look at the software and people side rather than the hardware. With LOR crews running the show, he has a high degree of confidence. Best, Mike Doyle
