Many politicians don't come out of the closet on issues that they think voters wouldn't support or would tarnish their image. This could be gays, wife beaters, drinkers, casual drug users, and a plethora of things that may or maynot have a bearing on their qualifications or value as a hum.

As far as dirty secrets, I'd prefer someone who is hiding various harmless vices like exaggeration or some excessive partying when young than someone who has a rabid belief in God, or the desire to make us all march in step. I don't think either candidate fits either category. SO, what we have are two imperfect people in an imperfect process and YOU have to judge where you want to be in 8 years and who will do it best.

Why do women wear makeup? Why do bald men wear hats? C'mon I think all politicians practice this kind of spin-doctoring. On specific issues, neither candidate has said EXACTLY what they'd do. But, with that said, knowing who has what record on average, that if you favor civil rights, environment, and social policy then you know who favors what. But that is only in very general terms. Steering a government is a lot like steering a supertanker. One needs to nudge early to change the direction. The sooner you do it, the better. And a tanker responds best if steered toward the middle.
