the problem with this whole offshoring phenomenon is elucidated by Lou Dobbs almost every night on his show on CNN, have you ever seen it? Lou Dobbs tonight I think is the show.

A lot of *brand new IP* which was just developed at US universities is being sent offshore. These things are the engine of growth. If these new inventions were happening here, you would have hiring here, new companies partaking in the wealth created here, small business and consulting business created around these new inventions. But because stuff is being literally plundered by large company CEOs and moved offshore immediately, nothing is happening. Half of the people that have lost their jobs are a result of an indirection from offshoring. Cigna for example just had a huge layoff, no more US workforce no more insurance right? Same with blue cross/blue shield.

I once knew a former CEO of atari and he hated the first Bush administration. He felt that republicans adhered to some textbook example of capitalism that meant that our US markets got plundered by Asia while their markets in Asia remained closed. In other words "by the books" economics doesn't work well in practice. Here we are again.

I still think Bush will lose on this issue, did you see the republicans in the house scared sh!tless of Mankew's remarks about how we are all winning from these benefits of offshoring yesterday? Now its not just Bush in trouble, its all republicans over this.
