Yaacov,

America still has the Old Yankee puritanic ethic to some extent. While it may be okay for the populace in general to do some things, people don't like their leaders to do those things. Out of sight out of mind. It is unlikely that a US president would appear in public with his wife and family and misteress as Mitterand did in France a few years ago.
