I know a similar article about this was posted, but I think some of it has a new twist.
COLORADO SPRINGS, COLORADO, U.S.A., 1997 MAR 24 (NB) -- REPEAT/By Ian Stokell. US Robotics [NASDAQ:USRX] and Berkeley Software Design Inc. (BSDI) have announced an enhanced version of the BSDI Internet Server system software for the US Robotics Total Control EdgeServer.
According to the companies, the new version was "designed to address Internet service providers' (ISPs) requirements for an all-in-one ISP access platform."
US Robotics says its EdgeServer is "a self-contained server integrated into the company's Total Control remote access chassis."
The BSDI-EdgeServer combination is reportedly intended for operating HyperText Transfer Protocol (HTTP) and File Transfer Protocol (FTP) caches, providing e-mail and DNS (Domain Name System) services, authenticating user access, supporting out-sourced corporate firewalls, running secure virtual private networks, and "delivering other essential network services."
The integrated BSDI-EdgeServer platform will be available to "qualified channel partners" beginning in the second quarter. |
