ERICSSON AND TELECEL SIGN AGREEMENT FOR DUAL BAND GSM 900/1800 AND
INTELLIGENT NETWORK DELIVERIES IN PORTUGAL

Ericsson and Telecel, the first private GSM operator in Portugal,
have signed a two-year agreement under which Ericsson will deliver a
GSM 900/1800 dual band solution for the extension of the existing
Telecel GSM 900 network. The new dual band network will be taken
into operation during 1998.

The expanded network will offer Enhanced Full Rate (EFR)speech
coding for crystal-clear, near fixed-line voice quality. With this
agreement Telecel will significantly increase its network capacity
as well as offer the best possible speech quality. The agreement
also contemplates adding new intelligent functionality in the
Telecel Network. The value of the expansion of the dual band network
and new intelligent functionality is around USD 40 million.

Ericsson has enjoyed a strong GSM presence in Portugal since 1992,
the year Ericsson and Telecel began their collaboration. Today, GSM
penetration in Portugal is over 18 percent and Telecel has over
850,000 customers.

"This agreement is the confirmation of the continuation of our very
successful relationship into the next millennium," said Peter
K„llberg, President of Ericsson Telecomunicacoes.

Antonio Carrapatoso, President of Telecel, Comunicacoes Pessoais,
S.A. said, "This agreement will help Telecel to continue to
differentiate in the market by its superior network coverage,
quality and innovation in providing leading edge products and
services to Telecel customers."

Ericsson is the clear market leader in integrated dual band GSM
900/1800 solutions, with 16 dual band networks currently in
operation or being readied in Asia and Europe. Ericsson has led the
field in implementing EFR speech quality, with the first enhanced
voice quality systems in all GSM frequency bands.

GSM is the world's most widely deployed digital wireless
communications standard. Ericsson is the market leader in GSM
worldwide, with almost half of the world's 80 million subscribers
connected by Ericsson systems. More than 110 network operators in
some 60 countries around the world rely on GSM systems.

Ericsson's 100,000 employees are active in more than 130 countries.
Their combined expertise in fixed and mobile networks, mobile phones
and infocom systems makes Ericsson a world-leading supplier in
telecommunications.
