You've got it right. The ISP's end doesn't really mo-dem. Neither to ISDN boxes - but we call 'em modems anyway. It's digital all the way from the I/O card (called modem card) to the codec at the telco's CO nearest you, which then mo-dems to your desktop box. At least, that the connection on a 56k environment.
