Dave I believe you are correct that the modem at the ISP isn't truly a modem because it does not modulate. There are others better qualified to answer your question (PRB or David U.) but I think you have a good understanding of it. "P.S. Is there any way to "add" a post or must you "reply"?" I'm not sure I understand the question really.
