I don't think anyone suggested that the 120Mb disks could be readable by the 'old' floppy drives. Now THAT would be something...<<

The post Jack quoted did not say or imply that. I just looked at it again to make sure. It says only that the 120 MB disks created by the LS-120 are undreadable on conventional drives.

I am quite certain that you are correct, and that standard diskettes will be useable in both standard and LS-120 drives.
