BlackBerry stock increases after BBM deal

BlackBerry shares were up 6% in morning trading Monday after the smartphone maker announced it will bring
its popular messaging platform to Windows phones.

The company says BlackBerry Messenger (BBM) will be available on the Windows Phone operating system
and the Android-based Nokia X smartphone, announced during the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona.

BBM has been one of the bright spots for BlackBerry, which has struggled to sell its own line of smartphones
amid competition from market leaders Apple, Google and Samsung. The messaging service is available on
BlackBerry, iOS and Android.

"BBM continues to grow in popularity as millions of people use our mobile platform for chatting and connecting
with friends or colleagues," said John Sims, BlackBerry's president of Global Enterprise Solutions.
