i don't think apple will be able to meet initial demand for IMAC. Just like there past history. in addition there are reports that they have been pulling workers from powerbook lines to work on IMAC. if this is true it will kill there bottom line because those powerbooks are very high margin

That's a for sure, there is no way Apple will meet the initial demand for the iMac, not by launch day or for weeks afterwards. Macintouch and MacNN are reporting that about 30,000 iMacs will be ready by Saturday, with 20,000 a week being the current production capacity. This means some folks will be waiting quite a bit longer for their iMacs.

The lack of production capacity and problems with certain models is an age old problem at Apple, and it appears even the mighty Steve Jobs hasn't solved that one yet. I hope Apple solves its troubles with the high end PowerBooks, and soon. As you noted, they are very high margin and Apple desperately needs to be cranking them out in a big way. I hate to think of all the lost sales already because Apple can't make 'em fast enough...
