If you believe the leading indicator / trailing indicator argument, the Stock Market will be the last thing to recover. The stock market (S & P 500 to be exact) is one of the 10 leading indicators included in the index. It is classified as a leading indicator at peaks and at troughs. Clearly this time it hasn't proven useful as an indicator. Generally the market's predictive abilities start discounting the recovery 3-6 months before it occurs.
