Judith Shine, a financial planner at Shine Investment Advisory Services, doesn't recommend investors diversify with gold because the precious metal is less predictable than other assets.

"It's easy to call (the movement of gold) for a short while, but not for a long time," Shine said.

Investors seeking a safer haven should consider good, old-fashioned cash rather than gold, Shine said.

Gold can lose money and it has 10 times the volatility of cash. As for gold stocks, they're not as liquid as other assets and there aren't many to choose from, she added.>>
