After reading my 15th question about "what happened to my portfolio," and Dave or Bob having to respond, I am wondering about the value of the freebie membership to the rest of the community and to the site itself.

So far - the freebies or hijackers have largely been in the following categories

a) Lebed and other spammers ("Let me share great news with you.")
b) bigots on the political threads
c) bashers, not of stocks yet, but of SI, itself.

I realize that the owners are trying to get a commercial success here. Personally, I'd pay extra or waive my prior grandpopping to get rid of the freebies. I'd hate to see this turn into RB or Yahoo. As far as I'm concerned, get rid of the political threads, but don't open them up to freebies. The nuts, with nothing better to do, will just keep opening new accounts, to post their 3 messages of vitriol.

The work on the new site must have been incredible in scope. I can't believe people are so small to be critical about the slightest stuff.
