Deutsche Telekom sees losses multiply

Deutsche Telekom has seen its losses multiply by five.

Falling profits at its fixed-line division and write-downs in the value of its acquisitions hit its profits.

Europe's biggest phone company made a net loss of 1.81 billion euros - that's £1.1 billion - for the first quarter.

Last year the loss was just 358 million euros.

T-Com, the company's fixed-line division, accounts for around half of the group's earnings so its problems with fierce competition have affected the whole group.
