Wherever the DEA is then you can be sure of a steady supply of drugs. Then you can also look at Afghanistan. The Taliban virtually eliminated poppy and heroin production. Enter the US, and now production is at record highs. Why do you think they are in Afghanistan? This is most certainly one of the main reasons. Follow the money. Billions of dollars.
The DEA in South America is a front for controlling who profits from the drug trade, and an excuse to have military bases in all of the countries.
The illegal part keeps prices high, (good for the CIA,and guys whose yachts float off the south of France, etc.) No taxes, is another plus. And the excuse to stick the US nose in on the drug pretext.
This is certainly a case where "Follow the money" points directly at the US.
