Nickel market in 12,000 tons deficit in January-May – WBMS Source: Dow Jones
See also Nickel Board Nickel CatalogThe global nickel market was in a deficit of 12,000 metric tons in the first five months of 2006, with reported stocks some 17,000 tons lower, according to data released by the World Bureau of Metal Statistics, or WBMS.
Nickel mine production rose by 3.7% to 540,000 tons, with increased output levels in Canada and Brazil accounting for most of the change, WBMS said.
In May, world production was 111,300 tons and demand totaled 110,800 tons.
Refined nickel production rose by 2.6% to 557,000 tons, with increases in Europe and Canadian output and the reemergence of the Philippines as a producer accounting for most of the increase, WBMS added.
World nickel demand was 700 tons higher than in the first five months of last year.
No allowance is made in the consumption calculation for unreported stock changes. |
