they have read Machiavelli and have taken him to heart If so, they took the wrong lessons from it - The Prince. BTW, if you want a good update, for lack of a better term, of The Prince, read The Modern Prince, by Carnes Lord. It's a very good analysis of the role of the executive - i.e. presidents and prime ministers - in constitutional democracies and the characteristics and various tools available to them that can make them effective leaders in the modern world. Suggested reading. Bob
