The case against Jefferson does appear to be quite strong.

I'm not arguing for a complete exception to searching Jefferson's Congressional office.

I do think that some persons connected with the institution, be it Congressional police or members of Congress or staff members (not Jefferson's personal staff) should have either been deputized to conduct the search or present when the search was conducted, to make sure that documents pertinent to Congressional business were left untouched.

Most preferable, to my way of thinking, would have been for the Congressional police to have conducted the search, but that may be quibbling, they probably aren't trained for such matters.
