Wow, I didn't know that Sonny Curtis wrote "I Fought the Law". That doesn't seem like his style at all.

Curtis seemed to have a background in Western Swing and hillbilly bop. I've seen pics of him with some of the old road bands, with his big Gibson electric archtop. I don't think he was formally a member of Holly's band, but was picked up by Holly for the sessions he recorded with Owen Bradley in Nashville in 1956, before he became famous. I have always thought this was by far Holly's best material, pure rockabilly with sparse arrangements, and excellent production by Bradley. Curtis' Travis pickin' style was a huge part of the sound, and really rings on those recordings. Very cool.
