Their new Typhoon's were pretty quiet but the most of their boats sounded like under water freight trains. We tracked an Alpha once in the North Atlantic at 125K yards. That is 56 miles under water. No way they could hear another sub over their own roar.

We did some ops working with one of the new boomers and you looked for a spot in the ocean devoid of any noise and that was probably our boomer. Incredibly quiet.
