JC, I had already posted the message before I read your "soft" comment in the "revised" statement <g>. no, i really don't think the idea is one i'd adopt if i were in their shoes...but, hey, i've overlooked many good ideas in my life! <g>

as for the past, it's there in black and white and anyone can make their own assessment of what could've/should've been done. bottom line is they missed a product cycle. the stock was punished. now it's recovering. sure, that's simplistic, but unless someone wants to write "The History of MRV" then I guess it'll have to suffice....

now, retention of top engineering and sales talent is ALWAYS a good area to question. while they've retained good engineers (i think largely due to the fact they believe in what they're doing and understand the pot at the end of the rainbow), i don't think they've ever had a spectacular sales force in place. this may explain why they're looking at using a CMG model to develop value. they have always been regarded as technically ahead of the curve (well, with the exception of the missed product cycle <g>) and that could lead a strong incubation model of providing a breeding ground for new ideas in networking. As venture capital (from VERY reputable VC firms) continues to roll in, we'll see this model validated. If the OA spinoff becomes a success, then we'll all hail this as a brilliant idea. if it flounders....well, i guess we're all up a creek.
