I can imagine a scenario where a world government can be great. But than I can also imagine being driven to work every day by my roommate's cat or my parent's dog. I can actually see a real possibility (rather than just a fantasy like imagination) that a world government could be something other that crushingly oppressive to American freedoms, but that possibility is tiny, at least in the short run. Also the government could be far better than "crushingly oppressive" and still be a rather bad thing.

I hope that world government doesn't happen in my life time. I think there is a distinct possibility that it could be crushing oppressive, and a large possibility that it would be less respectful of freedom than the US government. In particular I think it would be less likely to protect the right recognized in our 2nd amendment.

Eventually I think world government might make sense, but probably not for hundreds of years, and only if the world changes in the right ways over that time. Also even then I think it should be rather decentralized.
