Henry, Re: Patent 5,723,329. The abstract says, "The receptors of the present invention differ significantly from known retinoic acid receptors, in protein primary sequence and in responsiveness to exposure to various retinoids".
The last sentence says, " The invention also provides nucleic acid probes for identifying DNAs which encode additional retinoid receptors of the same class as the novel novel receptors disclosed herein".
I am confused by the classification of the newly found receptors as significantly different from known retinoic acid receptors, and the mention in the closing sentence of "additional retinoid receptors of the same class as the novel receptors disclosed herein". Are we to conclude that although they are significantly different they are still retinoid receptors and not a different class of receptors? Bernie
