You are remembering incorrectly with regard to the UN. I'm very surprised no one corrected you. Surely you remember the US did not attempt to get a U.N. Security Council resolution authorizing military force, because it was very clear to everyone the US would not get U.N. support for war against Iraq.

I hope this doesn't mean most people "remember" the whole affair incorrectly. That would be unfortunate.
